Completed projects inaugurated

Five development projects have been formally dedicated to the public. The Daido–Vangkawt Road in Champhai spans 3.33 kilometres and has been constructed under the North Eastern States Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) to improve connectivity in the Mizo ginger pilot region and facilitate agricultural produce movement to markets. The project cost is ₹17.24 crore.

A 132 kilovolt power transmission line from Bairabi to West Phaileng via Mamit has been completed at a cost of ₹54.95 crore. Spanning 74 circuit kilometres, this line strengthens the state’s electricity infrastructure and distribution network.

The North Vanlaiphai Water Supply Scheme augmentation project, costing ₹20.50 crore, expands access to drinking water across the region. An AYUSH Development Centre worth ₹2.64 crore has been established to strengthen healthcare services in traditional medicine systems. The Aizawl Institute of Arts and Music at Tuivamit Tlang, built at ₹6.90 crore under the North Eastern Council, will promote musical talent and preserve cultural traditions in the state.

Foundation stones for new projects

Five projects for which foundation stones were laid will expand road connectivity and social infrastructure. The Pukzing–Silsuri Road project in Mamit covers 21 kilometres and carries an investment of ₹100.24 crore. The Tualpui–Champhai Road spanning 21 kilometres across Khawzawl and Champhai districts will cost ₹57.01 crore.

An Oil Palm Link Road of 32.70 kilometres connecting Kolasib, Mamit, Lunglei and Lawngtlai districts is estimated to benefit nearly 60,000 people across 19 villages through improved agricultural transportation and access to services. This road project costs ₹26.49 crore.

A 40-bed hostel for the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) School at Zemabawk in Aizawl will support nursing education at a cost of ₹10 crore. The Ministry has also allocated ₹34.80 crore for sports infrastructure development across Mizoram to support athletic facilities and youth programmes.

Connectivity and economic benefits

The Bairabi–Sairang railway line has transported over 15 lakh passengers through more than 1,100 train trips since its opening, linking Aizawl with major economic centers including Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi. The railway has also enabled direct movement of food grains: the first Food Corporation of India food-grain train arrived at Sairang in March 2026 carrying approximately 26,000 quintals of rice from Punjab in 42 wagons.

Tourism has grown with Mizoram recording over 5 lakh tourist visits in the first half of 2026, consisting of 4,94,362 domestic and 7,389 foreign visitors.

Mizoram Ginger Mission

The Ministry has launched the Mizoram Ginger Mission with a budget of ₹189.79 crore to integrate nearly 20,000 farming households into a value chain covering cultivation, processing, branding and market access. The initiative aims to ensure farmers and local communities capture greater economic value from ginger production.

Broader development strategy

The Ministry of DoNER has allocated ₹6,812.30 crore for the entire North Eastern Region in the current financial year. In Mizoram alone, 375 projects worth ₹4,617.70 crore have been undertaken, with 295 projects involving ₹2,692.31 crore already completed, representing a completion rate of approximately 79 per cent.

What this means for you

If you live in rural Mizoram or work in agriculture, improved road connectivity will make it easier to transport produce to markets and access banking and healthcare services. The railway line expansion and new food-grain transport routes may reduce logistics costs and improve food supply chains across the state.

If you are studying nursing or pursuing music and arts, new educational facilities will provide better infrastructure and hostel accommodation. Young athletes will benefit from enhanced sports facilities. Farmers cultivating ginger will gain access to processing infrastructure and market linkages through the Ginger Mission.

What happens next

The Ministry of DoNER will continue to monitor project implementation through its coordination with the Mizoram Government. The five newly laid foundation stone projects are expected to move into construction phases. The Union Minister will also engage with students, civil society and banking sector stakeholders during his two-day visit on October 12–13, 2026.
