Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs aligns with countrywide rollout of Swachhata hi Sewa campaign 2026

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has joined the nationwide rollout of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, a fortnight-long cleanliness and hygiene initiative running from 17 September to 2 October 2026. The campaign is being observed across all government departments and ministries to strengthen public participation in achieving the Swachh Bharat vision.

Campaign activities and timeline

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has planned a series of activities from 18 September to 1 October 2026. These include cleanliness drives in office spaces, awareness sessions for school students, recognition events for sanitation workers (Safai Mitras), and information campaigns through social media.

Additional activities encompass:

  • Cleanliness and hygiene drives across office premises and corridors
  • Educational awareness sessions targeting school children
  • Special recognition of Safai Mitras for their contribution to sanitation
  • Tree plantation activities under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative
  • Participation in a nationwide volunteer effort called “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” on 1 October 2026

The Ministry’s Secretary, Shri Nikunj Bihari Dhal, led officials in taking a cleanliness pledge at the campaign launch. He stressed that cleanliness and hygiene must become permanent habits and shared values rather than time-bound activities.

What this means for you

If you work in government offices or attend schools near Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs premises, you may encounter cleanliness drives and awareness activities during this period. The campaign emphasizes that sanitation is everyone’s responsibility, not just that of official cleaning staff. By participating in activities like the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” initiative on 1 October, citizens and government employees are encouraged to contribute one hour of volunteer work towards cleanliness efforts. This approach aims to build a culture where maintaining hygiene and environmental responsibility becomes part of everyday practice.
