The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has reopened the registration window for IndiaSkills Competition 2026–27 until 19 October 2026. The decision follows widespread requests from educational institutions and aspiring participants keen to enter India’s flagship national skills competition.

The reopened window comes after India’s strong performance at the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, where Team India finished 10th globally and won six Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence. Following this achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Indian contingent at his residence on 9 October 2026, celebrating their accomplishments and highlighting the role of vocational skills in national development. What is IndiaSkills 2026–27

IndiaSkills is a national-level competition organized by the MSDE in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It provides a competitive platform for young people to demonstrate expertise in industry-relevant vocational skills and progress through multiple levels of competition. The contest spans 63 skill categories across six major sectors: manufacturing, engineering, construction, digital technologies, creative industries and services.

The competition follows a structured pathway. Participants begin at district or zonal level, advance through state and regional rounds, and the winners proceed to the national championship. Successful competitors at the national level have the opportunity to represent India at international skill competitions such as WorldSkills.

Who can register

The reopened registration window is aimed at eligible aspirants who could not register during the earlier deadline. The MSDE and NSDC have not specified a single age limit or educational qualification in this announcement, but have indicated that the competition is open to young people across the country. Institutions including Industrial Training Institutes, Polytechnics, Colleges and Skill Training Institutions are encouraged to facilitate registrations among their students.

How to register

All eligible aspirants must complete their registrations through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) by 19 October 2026. The official website for registration is https://www.skillindiadigital.gov.in/india-skills-competition. The MSDE has asked State Governments, Union Territory administrations, Industrial Training Institutes, Polytechnics, Colleges, Skill Training Institutions and industry partners to spread awareness about the reopened registration window and help candidates complete their applications.

Why the registration window was reopened

The competition had already attracted approximately 4 lakh registrations before the reopening, demonstrating strong interest among young Indians in skills-based competitions. However, the high visibility created by India’s performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 and the subsequent interaction between Team India and the Prime Minister appears to have generated additional demand. The MSDE received numerous requests to extend the deadline, leading to the decision to reopen registrations.

India’s recent performance on the global stage

At WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, Team India fielded its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across 63 skills and secured 10th position globally. The team won six Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence, marking an improvement over India’s 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024. This performance has drawn attention to the career and professional development opportunities available through specialized vocational training in India.

What this means for you

If you are a young person interested in vocational skills and career development, this reopened registration window offers a second chance to join India’s premier skills competition. Participation allows you to benchmark your abilities against national and international standards, receive expert feedback, and access opportunities to represent India on the global stage. The competition covers diverse sectors, so whether your interest lies in manufacturing, technology, construction, creative work or services, there are relevant skill categories to explore.

What happens next

The registration window closes on 19 October 2026. All participants must register through the Skill India Digital Hub by this date. After registrations close, the competition will move through its district, state, regional and national stages leading to the national championship.
