The Ministry of Coal has directed Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a coal mining company based in Singrauli, to launch Special Campaign 6.0. The preparatory phase runs from 15 September to 30 September 2026, with the main implementation phase scheduled from 2 October to 31 October 2026. The campaign aims to improve operational efficiency through waste management, workplace cleanliness, and better use of office spaces.
What NCL plans to accomplish
NCL has set specific targets for the campaign period:
- Clean 90 identified sites and cover 1,00,000 square feet of area in cleanliness drives
- Dispose of approximately 3,500 metric tonnes of scrap material
- Review 400 physical files and 9,000 electronic files for proper record management and disposal
- Digitise old physical records through scanning and proper indexing
- Identify and reorganise unused or underutilised office spaces and premises
- Assess, collect, segregate and safely dispose of electronic waste and plastic waste
The company has formed nodal teams across all its areas and units to oversee these activities. As part of an “Adopt-a-Spot” initiative, cleanliness teams will assume responsibility for specific locations and maintain them regularly. Where suitable, plantation and beautification activities will also take place.
NCL plans to encourage workplace organisation through 5S and 3S-based activities, which focus on systematic arrangement of workstations, record rooms and common areas. To build awareness among staff and stakeholders, the company will organise activities including walkathons, essay writing competitions, quiz competitions, wall painting and street plays focused on cleanliness, waste management and environmental responsibility.
