The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) has launched Special Campaign 6.0 to clear pending administrative matters and institutionalise cleanliness across its offices and subordinate institutions. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) started these special campaigns in 2021 to honour Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India by disposing of accumulated pending work.

This is the sixth edition of an annual drive that has been running since 2021. NITI Aayog will target the clearing of pending public grievances, references from Members of Parliament and State Governments, inter-ministerial consultations, parliamentary assurances, and appeals. The campaign will also focus on decluttering offices, optimising space, and improving the workplace environment in field offices.

Key facts

  • Special Campaign 6.0 launched by NITI Aayog in 2026
  • Previous edition (Special Campaign 5.0) ran from November 2025 to August 2026
  • NITI Aayog disposed of 4,105 public grievances during Special Campaign 5.0
  • 127 Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) references resolved in the last campaign
  • 34 public grievance appeals cleared
  • 5 parliamentary assurances completed
  • 90 square feet of office space freed through file disposal
  • Rs 1,96,905 generated through scrap disposal
  • Campaign covers NITI Aayog, Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO), Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) in NITI Bhawan, and National Institute of Labour Economics Research and Development (NILERD) in Narela, New Delhi

What the campaign targets

Special Campaign 6.0 will prioritise liquidating pending matters across multiple categories. These include unresolved references from Members of Parliament, requests from State Governments, inter-ministerial consultations that await response, parliamentary assurances that have not been fulfilled, references sent by the Prime Minister’s Office, and outstanding public grievances and their appeals.

Beyond grievance clearance, the campaign will focus on weeding out redundant and obsolete files and documents from offices. This helps reduce clutter and improves the efficiency of record management systems.

Cleanliness and workplace improvements

A significant component of the campaign involves improving the physical environment of NITI Aayog offices. The drive will emphasise overall cleanliness standards, better management and utilisation of office space, and enhancing the experience of staff working in field offices. Previous campaigns have successfully freed significant office space by disposing of unnecessary files and optimising storage.

Track record from earlier campaigns

NITI Aayog has demonstrated strong performance in previous special campaigns. During Special Campaign 5.0, which ran for nine months, the organisation resolved over 4,100 public grievances alone. The disposal of files also generated revenue of nearly two lakh rupees through the sale of scrap materials. These results show that the campaigns have real impact on clearing administrative backlogs.

The special campaigns have been an annual feature since 2021, with editions conducted in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and now 2026. This consistency reflects the government’s commitment to keeping administrative processes efficient and responsive.

What this means for you

If you have filed a public grievance with NITI Aayog or its attached offices, or if your MP has referred a matter to the organisation, Special Campaign 6.0 provides an opportunity for faster resolution. The campaign creates a focused period when offices prioritise clearing old, pending cases.

Citizens who have pending appeals related to public grievances may see quicker responses during this campaign period. State Governments and parliamentary bodies that have outstanding references with NITI Aayog can expect accelerated processing.

The campaign also indirectly benefits staff and stakeholders by improving office conditions, which can lead to better service delivery and more organised record-keeping systems in the future.
