The Press Information Bureau under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, operating from Hyderabad, is arranging a five-day visit for journalists to Kolkata and the Sundarban region. The tour, scheduled for September 21 to 25, 2026, is the first time any State’s PIB office has organised a press visit to Kolkata. A media delegation from Telangana will travel to West Bengal to cover defence, science, environmental and infrastructure projects firsthand.
What the tour will cover
The itinerary spans multiple sectors and institutions:
- Defence and Maritime (September 21): Visits to Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and Fort William Eastern Command, followed by an interaction at PIB Kolkata.
- Environmental Conservation (September 22 and 23): The delegation will travel to Sundarban to cover mangrove conservation, the Coral Reefs Scheme, the Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes (MISHTI), eco-restoration work under the Green India Mission, and Project Tiger conservation efforts for the Royal Bengal Tiger.
- Scientific Research and Urban Development (September 24): Visits to the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (Indian Institute of Ceramics), the Tea Board, and the Underwater Metro in Kolkata.
- Culture and Knowledge (September 25): Tours of the National Library and Science City, plus an interaction with the Governor of West Bengal.
