Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared an ancient Sanskrit verse on social media to promote the value of learning from all sources of knowledge. The Prime Minister’s Office released the statement on 8 September 2026, highlighting a philosophical message about wisdom and education.
What the verse says
The Sanskrit Subhashitam posted by the Prime Minister reads: “अणुभ्यश्च महद्भ्यश्च शास्त्रेभ्यः कुशलो नरः। सर्वतः सारमादद्यात् पुष्पेभ्य इव षट्पदः॥”
The verse conveys that a wise person should extract valuable lessons from all branches of knowledge, whether they are minor or major subjects. The teaching uses the image of a bee gathering nectar from flowers to illustrate the point. Just as a bee collects the best from every flower without discrimination, an intelligent person should seek and absorb the most useful wisdom from all available sources.
The core message emphasises that knowledge should not be approached selectively. Instead, people should remain open to learning from diverse fields and disciplines, recognising that valuable insights can emerge from unexpected quarters.
What this means for you
The Prime Minister’s message serves as a reminder that education and self-improvement need not follow narrow paths. Whether in formal schooling, professional training, or personal reading, the idea encourages people to draw lessons from multiple traditions and subjects. This philosophy applies to students preparing for competitive examinations, professionals seeking skill development, and anyone engaged in lifelong learning. The underlying suggestion is that intellectual growth comes from maintaining curiosity across various fields rather than limiting oneself to a single domain of knowledge.
