PM Vishwakarma is for people who make things with their hands. Carpenters, blacksmiths, potters, cobblers, tailors, barbers, masons, goldsmiths, basket weavers, boat makers and toy makers are among the 18 traditional trades it covers.

Once you register and are verified, you get a certificate and ID card that formally recognises you as a Vishwakarma. You then attend basic skill training and are paid Rs 500 for every day of it. After training you receive an e-voucher worth Rs 15,000 to buy proper modern tools, which for many artisans is the single biggest jump in output they will ever make.

Credit follows. You can borrow Rs 1 lakh without collateral at just 5 percent interest, repay it over 18 months, and then borrow Rs 2 lakh more. The government also pays you Re 1 for each digital payment you accept, up to 100 a month.

What you get

A registered artisan receives a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, skill training with a stipend of Rs 500 per day, an e-voucher of Rs 15,000 to buy a modern toolkit, and collateral free enterprise development loans of Rs 1 lakh in the first tranche repayable in 18 months followed by Rs 2 lakh in the second tranche repayable in 30 months, all at a concessional 5 percent interest with the government paying an 8 percent subvention. There is also an incentive of Re 1 per digital transaction for up to 100 transactions a month.
