What is Special Campaign 6

Special Campaigns are periodic government-wide drives designed to improve administrative efficiency and citizen service. The sixth edition builds on previous campaigns by setting comprehensive targets across multiple areas. Each participating ministry and department must focus on clearing their administrative backlog while also maintaining quality of work.

Core activities under this campaign

The campaign has several components. Ministries and departments will conduct cleanliness and sanitation drives at over 12 lakh government office locations. They will work to resolve more than 6 lakh public grievances pending with them, along with nearly 20,000 grievance appeals. Government offices will review and process nearly 20 lakh physical files and over 5 lakh electronic files that may be outdated or ready for closure.

A new component has been added to this campaign: each ministry or department will dedicate at least one specific day during October to focus on a particular activity. These dedicated focus areas include cleanliness practices, faster grievance redressal, better use of office space, tree planting drives and other priority activities. This focused approach aims to maximize impact and participation across all government offices and field units in every state.

Pending parliamentary and citizen matters

The campaign will also address long-pending references from Members of Parliament. Ministries will work to fulfil 856 parliamentary assurances, respond to 4,880 MP references and address 92 references from the Inter-Ministerial Committee. Additionally, they will process 802 references from state governments and 1,933 references received from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Rule simplification

Beyond clearing backlog, the campaign includes identifying and simplifying 653 government rules and procedures that may be unnecessarily complicated or outdated. This is intended to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for citizens and businesses dealing with government offices.

What this means for you

Citizens with pending grievances submitted to central government ministries and departments should expect faster resolution during October 2026. If you have applied for benefits, licenses or approvals that have been delayed, your case may be prioritised as part of this campaign. Public complaints about government services can be filed or tracked during this period for quicker response. Parliamentary assurances and commitments made to MPs will also be expedited, which may benefit constituents whose issues were raised in Parliament. Additionally, government offices may become cleaner and better maintained as part of the cleanliness drive.

Social media awareness

The campaign is being promoted across social media platforms with more than 3,000 tweets and 103 official statements from the Press Information Bureau to keep the public informed of progress and encourage participation from citizens.
