UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK and Sandbox at Global Fintech Fest 2026

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has released a new software tool and testing platform for Aadhaar face authentication. The move aims to help banks, insurance companies, fintech firms and government agencies integrate facial recognition technology into their own mobile apps more easily.

What has been launched

UIDAI has introduced two new products announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2026:

  • Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK: A software development kit that allows native Android and iOS applications to add face authentication directly within their own apps. It includes built-in checks against fake attempts and encrypts authentication data securely. It works on regular consumer smartphones without need for special hardware.
  • Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox: A testing environment where organisations can practice integrating and validating the complete face authentication process before going live. Teams can test user provisioning, face capture, liveness checks, and even simulate failure scenarios like network problems and spoofing attempts.

UIDAI’s face authentication system, developed domestically using artificial intelligence and machine learning, has been running since 2021. It has handled over 500 crore transactions and is used by nearly 200 organisations including government departments, state governments, banks, insurance firms, telecom operators and payment platforms. The technology won the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2023 in the Innovation category.

UIDAI has also released a guide document called “Playbook on ease of Onboarding” to help banking, financial and insurance sector entities join the UIDAI authentication system and verify customers.

What this means for you

Until now, using Aadhaar face authentication often meant switching between multiple apps on your phone. With this new SDK, banks and fintech companies can now build face verification directly into their own apps. This means you download just one app, say your bank’s app, and complete Aadhaar authentication without leaving it. The technology also meets Reserve Bank of India requirements for multi-factor authentication, commonly used for opening accounts and verifying identity in financial transactions.
