The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), operating under the Ministry of Finance, has dismantled a major drug trafficking operation in India’s North-East region. The agency seized more than 231 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets hidden in four commercial vehicles and arrested three people in coordinated operations on 15 September 2026.
The operation and what was seized
DRI officers, working on specific intelligence, intercepted four trucks across Assam and Tripura on the same day. The first two vehicles were stopped near Ramnathpur in Assam, roughly 100 kilometres from Silchar, with support from the Assam Rifles. Officers found 55 kilograms of pinkish-orangish tablets in the roof cavity of one truck and 54.2 kilograms in the second, totalling 109.2 kilograms from these two seizures.
A third truck, carrying what was declared as cement, was intercepted at Teliamura near Agartala in Tripura. This vehicle contained 72.6 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine hidden similarly in the roof. The fourth truck, stopped near Panisagar in Tripura, held 50 kilograms of the drug.
In total, DRI seized 231.8 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine tablets, all four trucks used for transport, and arrested three drivers. The contraband has an estimated black market value running into several hundred crore rupees. The seizure ranks among the largest of its kind in the North-East region.
This operation follows two earlier DRI actions in August 2026 near Silchar and Mizoram, where officers seized 76 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets concealed in vehicles.
