What this recruitment is
The Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination, usually called SSC CHSL, is the Staff Selection Commission’s main recruitment for Group C clerical posts in the central government. The 2026 cycle covers Lower Division Clerk or Junior Secretariat Assistant and Data Entry Operator posts in ministries, departments, offices, constitutional bodies, statutory bodies and tribunals. There are roughly 2,536 tentative vacancies. LDC and JSA posts sit in Level 2, that is Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200, while Data Entry Operator posts sit in Level 4 or Level 5.
Who can apply
A pass in Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board is enough for LDC, JSA and most Data Entry Operator posts. For Data Entry Operator posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the Staff Selection Commission itself and the Ministry of Culture, you need Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics. The age band is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026.
Selection and dates
Selection is through Tier-I and Tier-II computer based examinations, with a skill test or typing test forming part of Tier-II. Applications opened on 7 September 2026 and close on 7 October 2026 at 23:00 hours.
