The Ministry of Defence has entered into a contract worth Rs 586 crore with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited to supply Auxiliary Power Units for T-72 and T-90 tanks. The agreement was finalised on September 21, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. This move is intended to boost the self-reliance of India’s defence manufacturing sector.
What the contract covers
Auxiliary Power Units, or APUs, are devices that generate electrical power inside a tank. They supply power to several critical systems: the fire control mechanism that helps aim the gun, the firing circuit, the gun stabilisation system that keeps the weapon steady during movement, and other supporting equipment within the tank.
The APUs being procured under this contract have been developed within India, rather than imported from abroad. Their introduction into the Indian Army’s tank fleet is expected to make these armoured vehicles more reliable in the field, easier to maintain and repair, and better prepared for combat operations.
