The Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice organised a regional workshop in Goa on 21 September 2026 to showcase initiatives under the DISHA 2.0 Scheme. The event brought together government officials, lawyers, legal educators and community workers to discuss how technology and community efforts can bring legal services and information closer to ordinary citizens.
What the workshop covered
DISHA 2.0 is the Department of Justice’s programme to strengthen access to justice through several initiatives. These include Tele-Law (remote legal consultation), Nyaya Bandhu (pro bono or free legal services by lawyers and law students), legal literacy programmes, and VIDHI-Sanjeevani. The scheme also uses technology tools like the Nyaya Setu AI Chatbot to help citizens find legal information.
During the workshop, the Department of Justice highlighted its “Nyaya Prabodh: Awakening to Justice” campaign, which includes a “Know Your Rights in 90 Seconds” initiative featuring short videos about legal rights. The workshop also launched a Slogan Competition inviting citizens to submit entries by 31 December 2026 on the Department of Justice website to deepen understanding of constitutional and legal rights.
The event featured interactions with beneficiaries of the scheme, Village Level Entrepreneurs who help deliver services at the grassroots, and panel lawyers. A documentary about DISHA implementation in Goa was screened, and law school students participating in the Nyaya Bandhu pro bono programme shared their experiences.
What this means for you
If you live in Goa or other parts of India, the DISHA 2.0 Scheme offers ways to access legal advice and information without spending money, either through remote consultation, community workers, or free services from law students and lawyers. Legal literacy initiatives help you understand your rights under the Constitution. If you have ideas about legal awareness, you can submit slogans to the Department of Justice before the end of this year.
