The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications has announced Special Campaign 6, which will run in two phases between mid-September and the end of October 2026. The drive aims to embed cleanliness practices, reduce pending work, and handle electronic waste responsibly across India’s postal system.
Campaign Structure and Focus Areas
The campaign splits into two stages. The Preparatory Phase runs from 15th to 30th September 2026 and will involve postal circles identifying backlog matters, disposing of outdated records, cataloguing scrap and redundant materials, and mapping electronic waste. Offices will set clear measurable goals during this period.
The Implementation Phase, scheduled from 2nd to 31st October 2026, will execute the planned activities on the ground.
Scientific e-waste management forms a central pillar of this initiative. Post offices must:
- Assess old electronic and IT equipment early and sort items into repairable and non-repairable categories
- Set up designated collection points for e-waste
- Dispose of materials only through approved producers, recyclers or refurbishers as per the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022
- Keep detailed records of what is collected and how it is disposed of
- Train staff on safe e-waste handling practices
Learning from Previous Campaigns
Special Campaign 6 builds on earlier efforts. During Special Campaign 5.0, the Department of Posts organised 6,000 Dak Chaupals (community engagement events), cleared 1,30,000 campaign sites, planted over 5,600 trees, resolved 1 lakh public complaints and handled 1,000 CPGRAMS (citizen grievance) appeals.
What This Means for You
If you use postal services or have pending grievances with the post office, this campaign may speed up resolutions during October. The push for cleaner, better-organised post offices could improve your experience when visiting to send parcels or access services. The focus on proper e-waste handling also means the postal department is working to reduce environmental harm from discarded electronics.
