Yes. Most organisations accept a three year diploma in the relevant engineering branch, though several such as the Border Roads Organization and Military Engineer Services also require two years of working experience for diploma holders. A degree in engineering is accepted everywhere.

The upper age limit is 30 years for most posts and 32 years for Central Public Works Department posts, calculated as on 1 August 2026. Candidates must be born between the dates given in the notice, and category relaxations apply as per government rules.

Junior Engineer posts are Group B in Level 6 of the Seventh Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix, which is Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400, plus dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other admissible allowances as applicable at the place of posting.

The fee is Rs 100. Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and ex-servicemen are fully exempted. Payment is accepted only online through BHIM UPI, net banking or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and RuPay debit cards.

There are two computer based papers. Paper-I is qualifying in nature and covers General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and the engineering discipline. Shortlisted candidates then sit Paper-II, which is stream specific, followed by document verification before final selection.
