UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination 2027

The last date for filling the application is 22 September 2026, as printed on the first page of Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL. The notification was issued on 2 September 2026, so the window is three weeks long.

There are 127 tentative vacancies. Of these 111 are in the Geological Survey of India and 16 are in the Central Ground Water Board. Ten vacancies in all are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability, and the numbers are liable to alteration.

Requirements are post specific. Geologist needs a master's degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology or a listed allied subject. Geophysicist needs an M.Sc in Physics, Applied Physics or Geophysics. Chemist and hydrogeology posts have their own specified master's degrees.

The Preliminary examination is on 10 January 2027. The Main examination is spread over two days, 19 June 2027 and 20 June 2027. Candidates who clear the Main examination are then called for a Personality Test or interview.

A candidate must have attained 21 years and must not have attained 32 years as on 1 January 2027, that is born not earlier than 2 January 1995 and not later than 1 January 2006. Standard category relaxations apply as stated in the notice.

The fee is Rs 200, payable through net banking, Visa, MasterCard or RuPay credit or debit card, or UPI. Female candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Persons with Benchmark Disability categories are exempted from paying it.
