What this recruitment is
The Engineering Services Examination is the Union Public Service Commission’s annual recruitment for technical Group A and Group B gazetted posts across the central government. Examination Notice No. 02/2027-ENGG was issued on 16 September 2026 and covers approximately 480 vacancies, of which 19 are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. Recruitment is made in four categories, namely Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, feeding services such as the Indian Railways engineering services, the Central Engineering Service, the Indian Ordnance Factories Service and the Indian Telecom Service.
Who can apply
You need a degree in engineering from a recognised university, or to have passed Sections A and B of the Institution of Engineers (India) examinations, or a recognised equivalent. The age band is 21 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027, that is born between 2 January 1997 and 1 January 2006, relaxable up to 35 years for certain serving government employees.
Selection and dates
Selection has three stages, namely the Preliminary examination on 31 January 2027, the Main examination on 18 June 2027 and a Personality Test. Applications close on 6 October 2026 at 6 pm.
