The Ministry of Railways has given the go-ahead for a major electrical upgrade on a busy railway line in South India. The project will modernise the electric traction system on the Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway, a 73-kilometre stretch that handles significant passenger and freight traffic.

Indian Railways has sanctioned ₹142 crore for this upgradation work. The project covers 146 track kilometres and involves upgrading the electric traction system from the current 1×25 kV configuration to a more powerful 2×25 kV system.
The Savalyapuram-Guntur section is part of the larger HUN Route 8, which connects Vasco to Gadag, Guntakal, Nandyal, Savalyapuram, Guntur and finally Vijayawada. This route carries substantial railway traffic across the southern coast.
