Indian Railways has given approval for a four-lane road bridge project on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of the Western Railway. The Ministry of Railways will share the cost with the State Government for this infrastructure work, which replaces an existing level crossing.
The Project Details
The four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) will replace Level Crossing No. 53 at the 62 km mark on the railway section. The total project cost stands at ₹133.23 crore, split equally between Indian Railways and the State Government. Railways will contribute ₹66.61 crore while the State will pay the same amount.
The bridge structure has three main components:
- The railway bridge portion, built using Open Web Girder technology, will cost ₹91.60 crore
- The viaduct section spanning 311.58 metres will cost ₹19.98 crore
- The Railway Approach section extending 524.32 metres will cost ₹10.25 crore
The location presents engineering challenges because of its 62 per cent skew, which makes the design and construction more complex than standard projects.
