The Ministry of Culture organised a programme called ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ at Purana Qila in New Delhi on 17 September 2026 to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event was held under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan framework. Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the programme.
What happened at the event
The Union Minister lit the Aashirwad Ka Diya lamp while chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. He described the lamp as a symbol representing people’s blessings, service, gratitude and the vision for a developed India. He drew on Indian cultural tradition where a diya burns itself to light others’ lives, connecting this to the spirit of national service.
Artists and students from several institutions performed at the event. These included the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kathak Kendra, National School of Drama, Lalit Kala Akademi and Zonal Cultural Centres. Their presentations showcased Indian classical and cultural traditions.
After the performances, the Union Minister spoke with artists, students, representatives of the National Culture Fund, and those involved in the Adopt a Heritage initiative. The event concluded with collective lighting of the Aashirwad Ka Diya lamp.
