The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Chairman, Shri Kishor Makwana, has been awarded the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Jan Seva Award 2026. The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment announced this honour, recognising Makwana’s work in advancing constitutional protections and rights for Scheduled Caste communities.
The award was presented at the 16th Sansad Ratna Awards ceremony held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy attended as chief guest, while Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region Dr Sukanta Majumdar was present as special guest. Former National Commission for Backward Classes Chairman Shri Hansraj Ahir presided over the event, and former Chief Justice B.R. Gavai also attended.
The Award and Recognition
The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Jan Seva Award is given through the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee to recognise outstanding public service. Makwana was nominated by the Prime Point Foundation and the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee for his tenure at the NCSC.
