The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has approved funding of ₹320 crore for developing a cluster of seven government Industrial Training Institutes in Kurukshetra, Haryana. The funding comes through the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs, or PM-SETU scheme. The private company Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited will work alongside the government to oversee the transformation.
The Details of the Scheme
The National Steering Committee of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship cleared the Strategic Investment Plan for the Kurukshetra cluster. With this approval, the total money committed under PM-SETU across all 10 ITI clusters now stands at ₹2,491 crore.
The cluster will follow a Hub-and-Spoke model. Government ITI Kurukshetra will serve as the central Hub, while six other institutes function as Spokes: Government ITI (Women) Kurukshetra, Government ITI Kaithal, Government ITI (Women) Kaithal, Government ITI Pehowa, Government ITI Pabnawa, and Government ITI (Women) Ambala City.
The ₹320 crore will be spent on:
- Upgrading buildings and physical infrastructure
- Purchasing modern training equipment and laboratory tools
- Creating courses that match what industry actually needs
- Improving job readiness and placement support
Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited, already partnering with the Barbil ITI Cluster in Odisha where ₹240 crore has been approved, will help shape what students learn, upgrade facilities, deliver training, support teachers, arrange apprenticeships, and connect students to jobs.
