The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has highlighted the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a citizen service initiative launched to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to putting citizens at the centre of policy and development work across all sectors.
Speaking at the virtual event for the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan – Aashirwad Ka Diya’ initiative, Gadkari stressed that public service must be driven by the spirit of Seva Bhava—the commitment to serve. He said that infrastructure projects, particularly roads and highways, are not merely construction works but tools that connect people to schools, hospitals, markets, workplaces and other essential services.
What the initiative covers
Gadkari outlined several areas of government focus under this framework:
- Integrated infrastructure planning through PM GatiShakti and modern highway development to improve connectivity nationally
- All-weather connectivity projects in difficult terrain, including the Zojila Tunnel and similar efforts in hilly regions
- Safe, affordable and sustainable mobility solutions covering electric vehicles, alternative fuels, biofuels and hydrogen-based technologies
- Strengthening public transport systems
- Cross-sector initiatives like Ayushman Bharat to improve access to essential services
The Minister emphasised that development must be time-bound, result-oriented, transparent and quality-driven. He called for adoption of world-class technology, reduction of import dependence, efficient resource use and strict accountability for poor quality work and malpractices.
