The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs held a prize distribution ceremony on 10 September 2026 for the 27th National Youth Parliament Competition involving Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across India. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju presented shields and prizes to winning teams at the event held in Parliament House, New Delhi. The competition, running for three decades, engages students from these government schools in parliamentary debate and discussion.
Competition details and winners
The 27th National Youth Parliament Competition took place during 2025-26 and involved 100 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas spread across 8 regions nationwide. PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Ukhrul-1, Manipur claimed the national championship and received the Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Running Parliamentary Shield along with the national-level trophy.
Seven vidyalayas won regional prizes:
- Hyderabad Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kollam, Kerala
- Chandigarh Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Theog, Shimla
- Jaipur Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Suratgarh, Sriganganagar
- Bhopal Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh
- Pune Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Valsad, Gujarat
- Patna Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Purulia, West Bengal
- Lucknow Region: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand
What the competition aims to achieve
The Youth Parliament scheme introduces students to how Parliament works, including its procedures, discussion techniques and debate methods. Participants develop confidence, leadership abilities and public speaking skills while engaging with issues of national and international importance. The platform helps identify articulate and thoughtful young people from these schools across the country.
