The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has called on India’s universities to boost student involvement in three major national youth programmes. Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse chaired a meeting with leaders of 93 universities across the country to push participation in the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2027, the Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan and the Yuva Connect Programme.
What was discussed
The meeting brought together Vice-Chancellors from 40 Central Universities, 38 State Universities and 13 Deemed and Private Universities. Senior officials from the Department of Youth Affairs, the National Service Scheme and MY Bharat also attended.
The Minister stressed that universities have a shared responsibility in working towards the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. She asked institutions to create more avenues for students to take part in leadership activities, engage with communities and have meaningful conversations on national issues.
On the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2027, Khadse encouraged universities to help their students participate actively. The platform will allow young people to present their ideas and solutions to policymakers, specialists and national leaders. Universities were also asked to strengthen awareness and action related to the Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, which focuses on drug-free communities. Additionally, institutions were urged to link students with opportunities through Yuva Connect Programme and extend these initiatives beyond campuses into local communities.
What this means for you
If you are a university student, your institution will likely offer you more chances to participate in these national programmes. The Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue gives you a platform to share ideas with senior policymakers and experts. The Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan offers ways to contribute to anti-drug awareness campaigns. Yuva Connect can connect you with career and skill-building opportunities. Universities are now expected to actively promote these programmes on campus and encourage wider participation.
