The Ministry of Finance announced that Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) have achieved their strongest financial performance in FY 2025-26, with net profit hitting a record ₹10,176 crore. The announcement came after a review meeting held in Delhi, and highlights strong growth across the 28 RRBs that operate across rural India.
The Numbers
RRBs collectively earned a net profit of ₹10,176 crore in FY 2025-26, up significantly from ₹6,820 crore in the previous year. Their combined business portfolio has crossed ₹13.5 lakh crore, placing them ahead of several individual public sector banks.
The 28 RRBs operate through 22,273 branches spread across 26 States and 3 Union Territories, reaching around 700 districts. During FY 2025-26, these banks opened over 54.98 lakh new accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), a government scheme for financial inclusion.
Other key metrics show improvement. The Credit-Deposit Ratio reached an all-time high of 75.2%, meaning RRBs are lending out more of the money deposited with them. Gross Non-Performing Assets fell to 5.3% and Net Non-Performing Assets to 2.1%, both all-time lows. RRBs also met all their Priority Sector Lending targets, which require banks to lend to farming, small businesses and other priority segments.
