The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, formally opened the Archery Association of India’s World Archery Para Series through video conference. The event runs from September 5 to 9, 2026, and will see 108 athletes from 19 countries compete in Ahmedabad. The Home Minister used the occasion to outline India’s ambitions to become a global sporting centre.
What the government announced
Shri Amit Shah said that Ahmedabad’s sports facilities are being upgraded to meet international standards and will serve as a training hub for athletes not only from India but from around the world. The Home Minister stated that India intends to develop expertise in sports engineering, sports medical science, and treatment of sports injuries at the global level.
Participating nations include Bhutan, the United Kingdom, China, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Indonesia and the United States, among others. The Home Minister extended his wishes to all 108 competing athletes.
Looking ahead, Shri Amit Shah noted that Ahmedabad will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will mark the centenary edition of those games. Ahmedabad has also submitted a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Gujarat has hosted approximately 10 international sporting events between 2025 and 2026.
What this means for you
If you are an athlete or sports professional in India, world-class training and rehabilitation facilities will become available closer to home rather than requiring travel abroad. If you work in sports medicine, engineering or equipment manufacturing, India’s push to become a sports hub creates opportunities for skill development and business growth in these sectors. For sports enthusiasts and students, hosting major international events means exposure to global standards and competitive practices within the country.
