The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) carried out a targeted inspection of industrial facilities in Nuh district, Haryana on 3 September 2026. Nearly half of the units inspected were found violating air pollution control rules, prompting the ministry to warn of continued enforcement action across the National Capital Region.
What the inspection found
Eight CAQM teams, working alongside officials from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and state administration, examined 35 industrial units in Nuh. The results broke down as follows: 17 units were non-compliant, 11 units were compliant (with 10 fully compliant and 1 compliant with recommendations for improvement), and 7 units were closed or not operational at the time of inspection.
The violations documented fell into several categories:
- Defective or poorly functioning wet scrubbers, with leakage and inadequate water flow
- Non-functional or badly maintained Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) systems
- Inadequate stack height and chimney arrangements for boilers and thermic fluid heaters
- Insufficient dust control measures, including uncovered conveyor belts, inadequate water sprinkling, weak boundary barriers and unpaved internal roads
- Non-compliant diesel generator sets in operation
- Use of unapproved fuels such as wood and unauthorised liquid fuels in boilers
- Missing or outdated Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS) and monitoring reports
- Operation of machinery without proper Consent to Operate permits
- Dense smoke and fumes within industrial areas
What this means for you
If you work in or own an industrial unit in the NCR region, tighter monitoring is underway. The CAQM has made clear that compliance with environmental rules is not optional: all units must maintain working pollution control equipment, use approved fuels only, install proper emission monitoring systems and follow their operating permits. Further inspection drives are planned across the National Capital Region, with enforcement action to follow.
