The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting organised a media workshop in Kamareddy to highlight the role of journalists and news outlets in educating the public about government programmes. District officials stressed that effective communication through the media is crucial for reaching citizens with information about welfare schemes and safety concerns.
What the workshop covered
The event, called ‘Vartalap’ Media Workshop, focused on two main areas:
- Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan — The drug-free India campaign. Officials from the police and excise departments spoke about the need to make people aware of the dangers of substance abuse and to build support for a society free from drugs. They highlighted how the media can reach young people, families and communities with this message.
- Cyber Security — Speakers stressed the importance of educating citizens about online dangers, such as fraud and unsafe digital habits. They called for greater awareness of how to stay safe while using digital platforms and the need to guard against cyber threats.
Officials from various departments attended the workshop. Dr Manas Krishnakanth from the Press Information Bureau noted that the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is running such programmes to reach people in smaller cities and towns with information on matters of public importance.
What this means for you
If you work in media or journalism, this workshop shows how government agencies view your role in educating the public about welfare schemes, health and safety issues, and digital safety. It also reflects the government’s focus on fighting drug abuse and helping citizens protect themselves online. The emphasis on reaching Tier-II and Tier-III cities suggests these areas are getting greater attention from central government information campaigns going forward.
