The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced expanded economic cooperation between India and Morocco following a high-level visit by Minister of State Shri Jitin Prasada. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached approximately USD 4 billion in 2025. Both nations have committed to doubling this figure over the next five years by diversifying their trade basket and improving market access in goods and services.
Priority sectors for enhanced cooperation include:
- Fertilisers and chemicals
- Mineral resources and mining
- Machinery and electrical equipment
- Automotive parts and vehicles
- Building materials and polymers
- Agri-food products and tea
- Pharmaceuticals and healthcare
- Artificial intelligence, renewable energy and electric vehicle components
A new India–Morocco Joint Working Group has been established to explore the feasibility of a preferential trade agreement, examine trade barriers, and identify opportunities for improved market access. Both countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on food safety cooperation between India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority and Morocco’s National Office of Food Safety. A Cultural Exchange Programme for 2026–2030 was also signed to promote cultural collaboration between the two nations. The 8th Joint Commission session will be held in New Delhi at a mutually agreed date. India and Morocco will mark the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027.
