The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has completed three short films aimed at building public awareness about substance abuse and its dangers. Each film runs for 60 seconds and forms part of the government’s broader effort to reduce drug use across India.
The films support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, a national campaign launched on 15 August 2020 to promote a drug-free society. The ministry’s Department of Social Justice and Empowerment acts as the nodal agency for Drug Demand Reduction and is implementing the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction to educate citizens about the harms of substance abuse.
What the films cover
The three short films focus on different aspects of substance abuse prevention:
- The first film addresses early warning signs and behaviour changes linked to drug use, including how peer pressure plays a role.
- The second film promotes the National De-addiction and Tele-counselling Helpline, which operates on the number 14446.
- The third film highlights how parents and teachers can identify substance use early, prevent it and encourage treatment.
Together, the videos aim to spark collective action among families, schools and communities to tackle substance abuse.
What this means for you
If you or your family are concerned about substance abuse, these films offer practical guidance on spotting warning signs and knowing when to seek help. The helpline number 14446 is available for de-addiction counselling and support. Parents and educators can use these resources to understand their role in preventing drug use among young people. The films are freely available online through the ministry’s official channels.
