The Ministry of Law and Justice has announced judicial appointments for the Calcutta High Court. The President of India, following consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has made decisions regarding judges at this eastern India high court.
Who gets what appointment
Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, currently serving as an Additional Judge, has been promoted to a permanent judgeship at the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Prasenjit Biswas, also an Additional Judge, has been reappointed as an Additional Judge for another six-month term effective from 31 August 2026.
Five other judges have been appointed as Additional Judges at the Calcutta High Court:
- Justice Uday Kumar
- Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta
- Justice Supratim Bhattacharya
- Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee
- Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi
These appointments come under the constitutional authority granted to the President of India to make such judicial selections after consulting with the Chief Justice of India.
