The Ministry of Education organised a special Raksha Bandhan celebration at Rashtrapati Bhavan where President Droupadi Murmu met with school students from across India. The event brought together over 120 participants, including students and teachers from multiple states and union territories, as well as children with special needs.
During the celebration, the President spoke about connecting the festival’s values of love, care and protection to environmental conservation. She encouraged students to extend Raksha Bandhan’s spirit beyond family and friends to include nature itself, and called on them to tie rakhis on plants and trees as a symbol of environmental commitment.
Details of the celebration
- 122 total participants attended, comprising 89 students and 32 teachers
- Representatives came from 17 states and one Union Territory
- Students were drawn from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti
- 13 children with special needs participated in the event
- Students visited Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya on 27 August 2026
- Following the Rashtrapati Bhavan programme, students toured the grounds and Amrit Udyan
- Additional visits were planned to include an exhibition of Buddha relics at Raipithora Cultural Complex, the National Science Centre, National War Memorial and India Gate
