The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will be the chief guest at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Combined Convocation 2026 on 31 August 2026 in New Delhi. The Ministry of Textiles announcement covers the graduation ceremony where students from 18 NIFT campuses across India will receive their degrees. The Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, and other senior officials will also attend the event.
What the convocation will include
The Combined Convocation 2026 will bring together graduating students from 18 NIFT campuses to mark the formal conferment of their degrees. The ceremony will recognise academic performance, with gold medals awarded to the highest-performing student in each programme across the different campuses based on their CGPA.
Following the main convocation ceremony in New Delhi, individual campus-wise degree distribution ceremonies will be held where students will formally receive their degrees and officially transition from their studies into professional work.
NIFT, established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, operates 20 professionally managed campuses across the country. The institute is governed by the NIFT Act, 2006 and functions as a statutory body. The President of India holds the position of official Visitor to NIFT.
The convocation will celebrate not only academic achievement but also the creativity, dedication and contributions of the graduating batch during their time at the institute. The event aims to recognise how these students have developed the knowledge, skills and creative capabilities needed for India’s fashion and creative industries.
What this means for you
If you are a graduating student from any NIFT campus, this convocation marks your formal recognition as a degree-holder and your official entry into the professional world. Top performers in your programme will receive gold medals for their academic excellence. The ceremony underscores NIFT’s positioning as a leading institution for fashion and design education, which may enhance the professional standing of its graduates in the industry and job market.
