The Development and Welfare Board for De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities (DWBDNC), working under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, is holding a celebration called SAMAVESH UTSAV to highlight progress made by De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic (DNT) communities. The event will take place at Bhim Hall in the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi and will be attended by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar and Minister of State Shri B. L. Verma.
The Event and What It Will Feature
Around 700 participants from DNT communities are expected to attend, including community members, leaders, artisans and those who have benefited from government schemes. The celebration will include stalls run by DNT artisans and the Bharat-TULIP Heritage Store. The event will showcase success stories of people who have participated in the Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs (SEED), as well as display the traditional skills, craftsmanship and products made by artisans from these communities. The government will also use the occasion to highlight other welfare and development programmes it has rolled out for DNT communities.
The SEED scheme was created to support the overall development of DNT communities in four key areas: education, health, livelihood and housing. The scheme is currently being implemented across eight states: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. In these states, the respective governments are issuing DNT certificates to community members.
The DWBDNC itself was established through a government notification on 21 February 2019 to coordinate welfare and development programmes for these communities.
