The National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), Kolkata, an institute under the Ministry of Ayush, marked 50 years of operation on 3 September 2026. The occasion saw the opening of two new facilities: a modern operating theatre designed for surgery and a dedicated Centre of Excellence aimed at research and innovation.
What was inaugurated and why
The Modular Operation Theatre has been built to current medical standards and will allow NIH Kolkata to perform advanced clinical procedures while training students and doctors. The Centre of Excellence is designed to boost research activities, strengthen collaboration between institutions, and create better learning opportunities for students and staff.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Shri Prataprao Jadhav stated that reaching the 50-year mark represents a significant point in the Institute’s history. He noted that the new facilities reflect the Government’s intention to equip Ayush institutions with modern equipment, strong teaching programmes, research capacity and better patient services. He also stressed the importance of combining traditional homoeopathic knowledge with modern technology and scientific methods.
Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said the new infrastructure will establish NIH Kolkata as a stronger centre for learning and healthcare work. Members of Parliament and state officials also attended the event.
