The Ministry of Railways has launched a new daily train service connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai with Sawantwadi Road station in the Konkan region. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the service, which will serve passengers across Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and numerous towns along the coastal belt.
Service Details and Route
The train will travel approximately 510 kilometres between Mumbai and Sawantwadi Road. The service operates as Train No. 15087 (Mumbai to Sawantwadi) and Train No. 15088 (Sawantwadi to Mumbai), running daily with modern LHB coaches.
Journey timings:
- Mumbai to Konkan: Departs CSMT at 23:55 hrs, arrives Sawantwadi Road at 14:15 hrs the next day
- Konkan to Mumbai: Departs Sawantwadi Road at 17:20 hrs, arrives CSMT at 06:40 hrs the next morning
The train will stop at 23 stations including Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road, providing extensive coverage across the Konkan region.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that the Railways is operating 350 special trains during the Ganesh Utsav festival period, with capacity to increase to 370 trains if needed.
