The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’s National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) has begun using SARAL AI, a technology tool backed by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, to turn published research into short videos. The Ministry of Science and Technology is promoting this move as part of its push to use modern technology for better science communication. The initiative aims to make research findings accessible to students and the general public.
What is being done
CSIR-NIScPR has started converting research papers from its journals into engaging video content using SARAL AI. The Institute recently held a workshop on the tool that brought together more than 90 people, including journal editors and researchers. Videos created through this process are being uploaded to a dedicated YouTube playlist to reach wider audiences beyond those who read academic papers.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the purpose of this step is to simplify complex scientific research and present it in a form that non-specialists can understand and share. Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director of CSIR-NIScPR, emphasised that scientific knowledge gains greater value when it moves beyond the research community. The tool is intended to help make Indian research more discoverable and impactful.
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation, which created SARAL AI, backs this approach as part of its broader mission to spread scientific knowledge across society. Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO of ANRF, noted that research should not end with publication in journals but should reach many more people through accessible formats.
