The Ministry of Defence announced a historic milestone for the Indian armed forces on 1 September 2026. AVM Shakti Sharma was commissioned into the Education Branch of the Indian Air Force on 18 June 1994. This means she brings over three decades of service experience to her new role. During her career, she has worked across various training establishments, field stations, command headquarters, and the Air Headquarters itself.
Among her key contributions, she established IAF Chairs of Excellence at IIT Kanpur and Pune University. These chairs were created to strengthen academic collaboration and strategic defence partnerships with premier educational institutions. She also became the first woman officer from all three services to command a Sainik School, serving as Principal of Sainik School, Kapurthala.
